Apogee staff make some noise
Apogee staff have raised over £500 for Global’s Make Some Noise by completing the ‘Apogee
RideNimbus 100’ challenge.
Members of staff across the business rode an impressive 200 miles between them on two static bikes
that were installed in the firm’s Maidstone head office. In the week leading up to the fundraising event
employees were able to bid for their colleagues to ride up to five miles on the bike in return for a donation
to the charity.
Group Marketing Director Gary Downey said: “Global’s Make Some Noise is a fantastic charity that
supports small but brilliant charities across the UK, helping youngsters and their families living with illness,
disability or lack of opportunity. It was great to see so many of our team involved in the ‘Apogee RideNimbus
100’ challenge, there has been a real buzz in the office and we have raised a fantastic amount.”

Business confidence at
a four year low
The latest FSB Small Business Index, taken
before the EU referendum, revealed small
business confidence is at a four year low
following the largest annual drop in the
Index since it started in 2010. This suggests
that while the labour market continues
to show signs of strength, the overall
economic outlook is far from certain..
Mike Cherry, FSB National Chairman, said:
“The unemployment rate is at historically low
levels, but this does not seem to be translating
into broader business confidence. Clearly there are
other factors at play which, although not hitting
jobs now, are causing business owners to take a
cautious approach.
“Small businesses are already dealing with
considerable new cost challenges. With the result
of the EU referendum bringing even greater
uncertainty about the future – small business will
need reassurances from government that it will
support them and listen to their needs throughout
the coming negotiations.”

Public sector needs to
consider BYOD, warns
Annodata
Annodata’s Public Sector Survey which
surveyed 100 UK IT decision makers from
public sector organisations found that only
22 per cent of companies currently have a
policy for BYOD in place, while 43 per cent
were unsure.
The study highlighted that a number of
organisations within the public sector still need to
give BYOD initiatives proper consideration if the
benefits are to be fully achieved and security risks
avoided.
Andrew Smith, Technical Director said: “Many
public sector organisations are yet to put in place
specific and enforceable policies. Without a clear
policy implemented, an increased number of
personal devices can result in security and data
protection risks, such as data leakage, while also
causing increased complexity when it comes to
determining which devices are accessing which
systems and data.”
He added: “Preparing a BYOD strategy should
be at the forefront for companies that don’t
currently have one.”
